Let’s be straight up about this. It’s weird. It reminds me of the different shaped building blocks I played with as a kid. Why is a cherry involved? Strange.
But, I cannot deny this German born snack hits the spot when it’s a no fuss comfort food you’re looking for. It’s the exotic cheese on toast I’ve always been so blindsided to consider. You see, normally when melted cheese is involved I don’t have much patience or capacity to stretch my imagination to such inventions. Apparently it came about on a cooking show in the 1950s and ever since has been a cafe staple across Germany. I say give it a go and surprise your taste buds to a cheesy fruity mash up.
1 slice of white bread
1 tinned pineapple ring
4 thin slices of cheddar cheese
1. Layer the piece of bread with the pineapple then cheese, making sure the cheese covers the pineapple.
2. Place under the grill for 5 minutes until the cheese has melted.
3. Place a cherry in the middle of the pineapple ring.
4. Marvel how ridiculously quick the method was.
